Does this loophole even exist?

So, after I read the article Doug wrote regarding importing a vehicle, I did some searching for a possibly 5th way. I think I found it, but it seems like a load of bs. According to Japan Partner, limited edition vehicles are legal for import. Here is that website:

Is this even true?

I believe that a technical exemption of some kind exists for extremely limited production vehicles under very specific circumstances - i. e. such that it is exempt *crash testing* for hoop-jumping standard secondary import. Exempt what else, I don't know. Would it apply to... well, any sort of Skyline? My instinct says "fuck no".

Special edition models would fall under #3 - Show or Display. But they must be on the list before the car arrives. The list of approved/disapproved vehicles can be found here: http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/imp…

Getting a vehicle on the list is a process that involves a lot of paperwork and proving that the car is worthy. The process is also outlined at the above link.

Show or Display if the NHDTA (or whatever it's called) has to approve that to be significant in some sort of way. No going over 2500 miles. Best way is to get wait it out. Don't register anything in California or you'll have way more problems.

I have no plans going to Cali anytime soon so I don't need to worry. Thanks for the heads up though!

I just think this whole import restrictions idea is stupid! Enough with it already!

As annoying as it may be, I think we're at risk at the rules getting even more strict if people (ahem, Florida) keep trying to get around the rules we do have.

On the bright side, there are new models available every year!
